Kick Off 2016 Summer Vacation Season with Eclectic Riverfest Celebration

15 Mar, 2016

Memorial Day Weekend in Farmington, New Mexico brings about an eclectic celebration of area rivers, featuring live music, vendors, food, and outdoor fun with the annual signature event, Riverfest. With miles of vendors, bands, activities and food options, all along the bank of the Animas River, Riverfest is an ideal destination for active families looking to celebrate their long weekend outdoors.

“Riverfest is a one-of-a-kind experience, featuring fun for every member of the family,” said Tonya Stinson, Executive Director of Farmington Convention and Visitors Bureau. “From wiener dog races to incredible local and regional bands, and from rafting to walking trails, there’s something for everyone, and there’s no better way to kick off the summer vacation season and celebrate Memorial Day than heading outdoors for a weekend of fun.”

Riverfest offers competitive challenges, including a 10k and 5k run and walk, as well as river raft rides, a disc golf tournament, Roverfest, and geocaching throughout the parks surrounding the area. Additionally, events include the iconic and memorable Wiener Dog Races, Riverfest Juried Fine Art Show, Veterans Memorial Gourd Dance, and a petting zoo, among other attractions. Events will run Friday, May 27th—Sunday, May 29th. Those interested in rafting are encouraged to call Mild to Wild Rafting at (970) 247-4789 in advance to secure a spot.
