We have eight special April events to help you celebrate spring in Farmington!  Click on the title link for the complete event description and details.  For additional events taking place throughout the Farmington area visit the offical community calendar at FarmingtonNM.org/Events.

  1. Dinosaurs of New Mexico: Since opening in 1986, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science has become the number one place to view dinosaurs from New Mexico. Wanting to share their collection and discoveries with people throughout the state, the Museum of Natural History and Science presents the exhibition Dinosaurs of New Mexico at the Farmington Museum through September 8, 2018. Farmington Museum & Visitor Center hours are Monday – Saturday, 8:00am – 5:00pm. Entry is free.
     
  2. Maurice Sendak: 50 Year; 50 Works; 50 Reasons: In this special exhibit, you’ll explore 50 original artworks by the creative genius, Maurice Sendak, author and illustrator of the beloved children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are. The exhibit includes sketches, illustrations and works on paper. This special exhibit will be on display at the Farmington Public Library through April 22, 2018. Cost is $1 per child and $3 per adult.
     
  3. Jazz Fest: The San Juan College Jazz Big Band, led by Instructor of Music Delbert Anderson will celebrate Jazz with a variety of pieces featuring the works of John Coltrane, Blue by Bobby Shew and Eddie Harris. Special guest for this concert is Jazz musician Brad Goode. Concert held on April 6, 2018 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Henderson Fine Arts Performance Hall. There will also be a clinic at 12 p.m. noon for anyone interested, especially middle school and high school students attending the festival. After the concert there will be a jam session featuring Goode at Clancy’s Irish Pub & Grill. Tickets: $12 - $18
     
  4. Downtown Spring Art Walk: Come to “The Heart” of Farmington, Historic Downtown, for the first Art Walk of the season, the Spring Art Walk! Galleries, restaurants and retail businesses will host some of the best local artists we have in the area. Meet and chat with local artists in Historic Downtown Farmington on April 13, 2018 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
     
  5. Live Horse Racing: SunRay Park & Casino brings live horse racing to Farmington every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday from April 20 to June 18, 2018. Post time is at 3:00 pm on Monday and Friday and 1:15 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
     
  6. Kite Flying Festival and Health and Wellness Fair: Get ready for a family-friendly afternoon at the Sycamore Park Community Center Health and Wellness Fair! Bring your kites and let’s fill the sky as part of Childhaven's Kites for Kids. This event will take place at Sycamore Park Community Center on April 21, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
     
  7. Bark in the Park & Doggie Dash: Run, romp, and play with your favorite canine friend and family at the annual Bark in the Park! Event will take place April 28, 2018 at Animas Park, near the Farmington Regional Animal Shelter from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Doggie Dash will begin at 10:00 a.m. Register early for the Doggie Dash to receive a free shirt and bandana.
     
  8. Full Moon Bisti Badlands Hike: Join the Farmington Museum for fun and informative full moon hikes into the Bisti Badlands! Space is limited and registration is required. This program is for adults 18 years and older. The guided full moon Bisti hikes for 2018 are scheduled for April 30, July 27 and October 24.

 

The FBA consists of local residents, organizations and businesses working together to energize how we live, work, play and stay Farmington. As a group, they have chosen to highlight events that go above and beyond to energize life journeys through exceptional performances and unique opportunities. Each month, the FBA meets for the Action Team Meeting and votes on the top upcoming events from the official community calendar at www.FarmingtonNM.org.  Event organizers interested in endorsement need only submit their event to the calendar.
