DesPlas blends original poetry, visual art, and performance. By drawing upon family history and cultural heritage, she personalizes socio-cultural issues. She forefronts herself in these videos; thereby, alluding to the complex experience of being an American, Indigenous, Latina woman. Satirical humor underpins her inquiries into gender issues, socio-political topics, and cultural stereotypes.
“Our House” was an official selection of the 2022 Monologues & Poetry International Film Fest. “Miss Nalgas USA 2022” was previously screened in New York at Amos Eno Gallery and form & concept gallery in Santa Fe. This will be the debut video screening of her new work “Pinto Beans”.
