Enjoy an evening of world music when the African Drumming Ensemble debuts as the newest San Juan College ensemble as part of the San Juan College Silhouette Series.
The African Drumming Ensemble is led by master drummer, Dr. Teun Fetz, assistant professor of Music at San Juan College. This group is high energy and includes students and community members playing djembe hand drums and dununs in the West African tradition. Most of the music is from Guinea, Nigeria, and the Ivory Coast countries in West Africa. This is West African dance music played in a groove format with improvisation solos from the djembe players and a steady beat provided by the dununba, kenkeni, and sangban. Come be a part of history as this drumming group performs for the first time ever. There may be guest appearances by the Ashay Drumming Group in Aztec and George Rowe of Crash Music in Aztec. Stay tuned and come check it out.
