What Terrain Awaits Off-Road Enthusiasts?
The landscape surrounding Farmington plays an important role in the event. Many of the trail rides and competitions take place on public lands that have been enjoyed by local off-road enthusiasts for decades.
One of Farmington's well-known off-roading destinations is the Glade Run Recreation Area. Covering thousands of acres of public land, the Glade offers a mix of sandy washes, slickrock, rolling hills, and desert trails. Beyond the event, this recreation area also provides opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and camping, making it a popular destination for outdoor recreation throughout the year.
Within The Glade is Chokecherry Canyon, a well-known area for technical rock crawling. Its combination of natural rock formations and challenging obstacles has made it the home of the W.E. Rock Grand Nationals and a popular destination for experienced drivers looking to test their skills. The surrounding trail system also includes routes ranging from scenic drives to more technical terrain, allowing riders to choose adventures that match their experience level.
Largo Canyon is another popular recreation area showcased during Four Corners 4x4 Week. Located just east of Farmington, New Mexico, this region features a network of trails and sandy washes amidst historical and scenic gems. The canyon is rich in history with Puebloan ruins, Diné defensive sites, Rock Art, stunning rock formations, and incredible scenery. The trails are generally a mix of sandy washes and rutted, mixed-use roads.
For more than 40 years, off-road enthusiasts have explored the trails and public lands in and around Farmington. The area's changing terrain offers a range of experiences, from sandy washes and slickrock obstacles to scenic desert overlooks.
