The Language of Trees portrays the struggles of an American translator who ventures to a Middle East combat zone and an overly friendly neighbor back home who volunteers to help his wife and son as they come to terms with his absence. As events abroad begin to spiral out of control, lives are turned upside down, and all are forced to confront the complexities of war, the fragility of language, and the meaning of neighborliness in an age of terror.

Readers Theatre staging is minimal and actors present a rehearsed, dramatic experience that pays particular attention to the deeper themes, style, cadence and pros of the text. It differs from a full-scale production, in that its purpose is to provide its audience with an auditory experience of the writer’s unique voice, cadence, tempo and use of language.  There is a short break after the play ends, and the audience is invited back to attend a discussion of the plays deeper meanings, themes and overall impact.
