This program explores the history of the Civil Rights Movement through the lives of two powerful women: Rosa Parks, the African American seamstress who refused to give up her seat to a white woman on a segregated bus; and Coretta Scott King, the widow of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Coretta was the phenomenal “force behind the throne” who never faltered in her dedication.
Brenda Hollingsworth-Marley is a popular vocalist, having appeared at numerous community, church, and jazz events. She is also a popular story-teller who has performed at many venues as Lena Horne, Billie Holiday and many other individuals.
The Chautauqua performances are free and sponsored by the San Juan College Foundation, the New Mexico Humanities Council, the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, San Juan College Encore Program and KSJE 90.9 FM.
