The San Juan Symphony is thrilled to welcome Cuban-American cellist Tommy Mesa for his debut with the orchestra. A recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant, Dr. Mesa recently stepped in at the last minute for the legendary Yo-Yo Ma and has performed as a soloist with major orchestras, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Cleveland Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, and others

Mesa will perform Antonín Dvorák’s sublime Cello Concerto, a masterful work that showcases both our soloist, his artistry, and our musicians in their most ideal circumstances.

This eloquent program features two giants of the Romantic era. Alongside Dvorák’s celebrated concerto, Johannes Brahms’s formidable Third Symphony will set a profound and passionate tone. Rich in depth, complexity, and emotional power, Brahms’s symphony offers a compelling showcase of the composer’s genius and the San Juan Symphony’s artistry.
