SAN JUAN COUNTY SENIOR OLYMPICS
The Senior Olympics start on April 21 with the Basketball Free Throw at the Farmington Recreation Center and will finish with the Awards Picnic at the Bonnie Dallas Senior Center on May 21.  Pick up calendar of events for events and times and applications for participation at any Senior Center in San Juan County.

Race days are Thursdays – Sundays. Post time is 2:15 p.m. Simulcast horse racing year-round. Sunray Park & Casino is located off Hwy. 64, between Farmington and Bloomfield, in front of the McGee Park Coliseum.

10TH ANNUAL ALIEN RUN MOUNTAIN BIKE COMPETITION

This annual race through Hart Canyon in Aztec, New Mexico is a fundraiser for the Aztec Public Library. Beginners and experts are welcome! Registration is $20.00

CROWNPOINT RUG AUCTION

300-400 hand woven Navajo rugs are auctioned off at this monthly auction sponsored by the Crownpoint Rug Weavers Association. Rug viewing takes place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Auction begins at 7 p.m. Auction held at the Crownpoint Elementary School (72 miles south of Farmington on Hwy. 371)

WHIMISCAL PUPPETS IN IMAGINARY LANDS
Come to the Farmington Museum and join our Gateway to Imagination juror, Caroline Brooks, for a two-day puppet-making workshop. Hours will be May 14th from 6pm to 8:30pm and May 15th from 10am to 12:30pm. Projects will be built from Paper Mache, dowels, and fabric.  Once finished, participants will have an opportunity to bring their puppets to life in the gallery. Puppets will be on display with the art show for the public to see for a short time.  Open to children grades 1 through 5 and their parents.  Register early, space is limited.

PLEIN AIR PAINTERS OF THE FOUR CORNERS
Plein Air Painters brave the elements and complete their paintings completely outdoors; this difficult and physically demanding art form is rewarded with breathtakingly beautiful landscapes. The opening reception will be May 14th from 6pm to 8pm. The exhibit will be on display until June 25th at San Juan College’s Henderson Fine Arts Gallery.

FAMILY ART SATURDAY - GLORIOUS GLUE
Fascinating artistic creations with glue are possible. Children of all ages can explore glue as a medium for painting, drawing, and creating.  This is a drop-in activity for families to play and discover together from 1pm to 4pm at the E3 Children’s Museum & Science Center.  All ages are welcome, with adult supervision.  Information: 505-599-1425

FIESTA DAYS

Aztec celebrates the arrival of summer with live music, dancers, entertainment, games, food, arts & crafts, parades, the Frazier Carnival and special sprint car races at Aztec Speedway. Friday evening features the carnival, a pet parade, mini-princess contest, live music in Minium Park and the 40+ year tradition of the candlelight parade and burning of Old Man Gloom. Saturday kicks off with a parade down Main Avenue and offers all-day fun in Minium Park, downtown and throughout the city of Aztec, including the 5th Annual Classic Car Show.

TREES, WEEDS, & WILDFLOWERS
Stroll Animas and Berg Parks with a guide from the Riverside Nature Center, from 9am to 11am, and learn about the plants, animals, and birds we can see in the spring.  Nesting birds and colorful insects should be here for us to observe.  Bring binoculars or borrow some from the Nature Center for this leisurely walk of about two miles.

PET EXTRAVAGANZA
Come to McGee Park, 10am to 5pm, for a fun-filled day of all things pets!  Big pets, small pets, and everything in between. Enjoy a pet parade and visit with pet and animal experts.  This event will benefit the proposed Regional Animal Shelter.

RIVERFEST

The rivers of San Juan County are celebrated with a festival of music, fine arts, food, entertainment, a 10K and 5K run & walk, riverside trail walks and river raft rides! Festivities begin with a concert at Berg Park on Friday from 7pm to 9pm and continues Saturday from 10am to 7pm and Sunday from 11am to 5pm. Events take place at Berg Park (Scott Ave and San Juan Blvd.) and at Animas Park (off Browning Parkway) in Farmington.   Vendors are needed, email a request for application to riverreachfoundation@gmail.com.

BROOKSIDE POOL OPENS
Summer is here, that means Brookside Pool is open! Public Swim Monday’s through Saturday’s 1pm to 4pm and 4:30pm to 7:30pm. Cost is $1.50 for ages 13 and up and $1.00 for ages 3 to 12.  Lap Swim from 12noon to 1pm.  The cost is $1.00 per swimmer.

RIVERFEST 10K & 5K RUNS AND 2-MILE WALK
Register in advance at the Farmington Recreation Center, 1101 Fairgrounds Rd., for this annual event to take place in Animas and Berg Parks during Riverfest.  Cost is $18 for runs and $12 for the walk.
