ROBOTICS EXHIBIT

This exceptional exhibition at the E3 Children’s Museum & Science Center, 302 N. Orchard Ave., includes a variety of hands-on educational interactive activities.  Engage in sensing, thinking, and acting activities where visitors can fool the motion detector, participate in simple programming, compare human and robotic actions, and even race a robot.  Robot-related art and science educational programming is planned throughout the Robotics exhibition.  Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10am – 5pm.

JANUARY 15
PINE LEAF BOYS

Louisiana's finest, two-time Grammy-nominated Pine Leaf Boys, known for their wild shows and thoughtful arrangements, have breathed new life into Cajun music, reviving ancient songs and bringing them to the bandstand. The Pine Leaf Boys play the old fashioned dance hall standards while bringing many of the more obscure songs of past masters into their repertoire and playing them with gusto. Performance begins at 7 p.m. in the San Juan College Performance Hall. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors.

Formed at Fullerton College in 1987, the Alley Cats have made it to the forefront of a cappella music with their renditions of timeless doo-wop classics and zany improvisational comedy. ROMANCE ON THE RAILS

The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is offering train and dinner packages as a unique way to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Passengers will enjoy an afternoon train ride to Cascade Canyon and have the option to have dinner and hear live music by Tim Guidotti at the Strater Hotel. The train departs Durango at 1:30 pm and returns at 6:30 pm. Seating is limited and advance reservations are required.

PIEDRA VISTA CHOIR CONCERT
The Piedra Vista Choir will perform at the Totah Theatre from 6:30 to 7:15pm. The concert will benefit the San Juan Animal League and the construction of the San Juan Regional Animal Shelter.  Charitable donations of any size will be accepted at the door.  Attendees are encouraged to dress casual, with an animal theme.

3RD ANNUAL HIGH DESERT FINE ART FESTIVAL
This festival features some of the most talented artists in the Four Corners presenting diverse work in multiple mediums.  Festival held at the San Juan College Henderson Fine Art Center in rooms 9008 and 9010. Opening reception Friday from 7pm to 9pm, entry fee is $10.  Hours will be 10am to 6pm on Saturday and from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, admission is free.

SWING DANCE

Dust off your saddle shoes, iron your poodle skirt, and get your letterman sweater down from the attic - because you are going to need them!  Come enjoy the big band sounds of the Jeff Solon Swing'N Big Band, dance contests, cash bar, burgers and dogs and prizes. Swing Dance Lessons will be offered right before the dance, from 6:15pm to 7pm in the Civic Center Exhibit Halls.  Prizes will be awarded for the best 40's and 50's costumes so have fun with it! The Farmington Civic Center Foundation for the Performing Arts & BHP Billiton are holding the Dance at the Farmington Civic Center from 7pm to 10pm, proceeds will benefit their efforts to bring Broadway shows back to the Farmington Civic Center. Come out and support Broadway theater in Farmington!  Tickets are $30 per person and are available at the Farmington Civic Center Box Office.

SWEENEY TODD, SAN JUAN COLLEGE SPRING MUSICAL

San Juan College presents their Spring Musical, Sweeney Todd. Winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, this musical tells the stylish tale of love, murder and obsession. Set in the harsh underworld of Victorian London, the show is both poignant and darkly comic, while featuring some remarkably close shaves and surprisingly delicious pies! The National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque has graciously shared Maria de Barros with Brooks/Isham Performing Arts Center. Maria's music transcends taste, preference, and even language. She combines inflections of Africa, Brazil, the Caribbean, France and Spain while allowing her homeland tradition and culture of Cape Verde to permeate. Performance begins at 7pm, doors open at 6pm. WHIMISCAL PUPPETS IN IMAGINARY LANDS
Come to the Farmington Museum and join our Gateway to Imagination juror, Caroline Brooks, for a two-day puppet-making workshop. Hours will be May 14th from 6pm to 8:30pm and May 15th from 10am to 12:30pm. Projects will be built from Paper Mache, dowels, and fabric.  Once finished, participants will have an opportunity to bring their puppets to life in the gallery. Puppets will be on display with the art show for the public to see for a short time.  Open to children grades 1 through 5 and their parents.  Register early, space is limited.

FIESTA DAYS

Aztec celebrates the arrival of summer with live music, dancers, entertainment, games, food, arts & crafts, parades, the Frazier Carnival and special sprint car races at Aztec Speedway. Friday evening features the carnival, a pet parade, mini-princess contest, live music in Minium Park and the 40+ year tradition of the candlelight parade and burning of Old Man Gloom. Saturday kicks off with a parade down Main Avenue and offers all-day fun in Minium Park, downtown and throughout the city of Aztec, including the 5th Annual Classic Car Show.

TREES, WEEDS, & WILDFLOWERS
Stroll Animas and Berg Parks with a guide from the Riverside Nature Center, from 9am to 11am, and learn about the plants, animals, and birds we can see in the spring.  Nesting birds and colorful insects should be here for us to observe.  Bring binoculars or borrow some from the Nature Center for this leisurely walk of about two miles.

Come to McGee Park, 10am to 5pm, for a fun-filled day of all things pets!  Big pets, small pets, and everything in between. Enjoy a pet parade and visit with pet and animal experts.  This event will benefit the proposed Regional Animal Shelter.

RIVERFEST

The rivers of San Juan County are celebrated with a festival of music, fine arts, food, entertainment, a 10K and 5K run & walk, riverside trail walks and river raft rides! Festivities begin with a concert at Berg Park on Friday from 7pm to 9pm and continues Saturday from 10am to 7pm and Sunday from 11am to 5pm. FARMINGTON GROWERS' MARKET

Visit this local market for the freshest most flavorful fruits and vegetables available!  Local Farmers and Growers fill the lot with their fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, eggs, meats, plants and cut flowers.   Market is held at the Gateway Park Museum and Visitor Center, 3041 E. Main in Farmington and is held Saturdays (beginning July 10) from 8am to 11am and Tuesdays (beginning July 20) from 4:30pm to 7pm until the second week of October or the first freeze.

OPENING HELEN'S TRUNK
This interactive exhibit at the Farmington Museum features six women artists and a turn-of-the-century trunk. It explores questions of identity, legacy, and what it means to be a creator of art in connection with a larger society. The show features a variety of media, including film, writing, music, photos, textiles, sculpture, and personal treasures that, together, weave a community of art. Visitors are invited to collaborate by adding their own art, stories and responses. Exhibit on display until October 15, 2010.

The festival will feature stories of all varieties scary ghost stories, family stories, folklore and myths. AUDUBON CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT
The Riverside Nature Center, in Animas Park off Browning Parkway, will be part of this nationwide project which is an opportunity for volunteers to aid in scientific research which has been carried out for over 100 years.  From 8am – 2pm, spend part or all of the day with other birders counting all the birds, common or rare, abundant or scarce, in their wintering grounds in the Farmington area.  Participants pay a small fee, which helps fund compilation of the census.
